GET CONNECTED! Week of November 2nd

KIDS CARNIVAL ON FRIDAY!
Each year, Kids Carnival has expanded in attendance - and this year will be no exception.

We have had an overwhelming response to our ‘calls’ for a ‘candy pipeline’ and ’surge of Maverick volunteers’. So much so, that for the first time in many years, we will not have to venture over to Meijer or Walmart to purchase candy - we’ve got all we need!

Thank you for praying for all our Carnival needs - especially the volunteers and candy. If you get questions about volunteering - or would like to volunteer yourself we can still use you! Please contact one of our RezKidz staff.

Here’s some other details about this year’s Kids Carnival:

‘Special Needs’ Children. From 4:00 - 5:00 PM the Carnival will be open for any children with ’special needs’. We are promoting this to local schools like Shawnee Park for the hearing impaired and special needs kids and the Ken-o-sha early development program, as well as other local schools who have special ed programs.

Can Food Drive. Mel Trotter Ministries will be joining us for a can food drive for Thanksgiving. They will have a truck here at church to collect the cans.

Promotions. We are promoting this event on 95.7 Lite Rock, B93 and WOOD radio with the intention of inviting a largely secular crowd to check-out RLC.

For more information visit the Kids Carnival page.

POLITICAL COMMERCIALS FOR KIDS CARNIVAL - Pastor Jon and I have been asked if we could provide a link to the two video announcements (political commercials) that were used the last couple of weeks to promote Kids Carnival. So here they are:

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!

We are pleased to announce that Jason Rose has accepted the position that opened up with Tricia’s departure!

Jason and his wife Tamy have been serving faithfully in RezKidz for over five years. They have been long-time members of the STARZ team during our 5:00 PM service and most recently have been interning with us since May 2007 as our teachers for our Saturday evening service.

Jason will be leaving his current position as a diesel mechanic with Waste Management where he has worked for the last 13 years. He was a volunteer-leader in the 180 with the junior high from 1997 – 2002 where he was a service coordinator, leader of group events outside of church, and mentor/counselor for the kids. Also, he created and implemented a student small-group study program for that age group.

Pastor Duane publicly ‘graduated’ Jason in front of the Sunday evening service in May 2007 after completing his coursework with a Certificate in Practical Theology from Christian Life School of Theology.

In evaluating a person for this position, we used the following five items: (1) Strength of marriage and family, and the health of their finances. (2) The ‘chemistry’ and inter-personal relationships with members of the RezKidz staff and volunteer team. (3) Experience in ministering to children from K – 5th grade in small-group to large-group settings. Included in this is the ability to teach in front of adults and interaction with parents. (4) An ability to focus on ministry in RezKidz without distraction from ‘outside’ ministry or business goals. (5) Proven service and faithfulness in RezKidz or Kids Camp or Power House.

Jason’s official title will be Assistant Director of Children’s Ministry. He will start working with us on Monday, November 10 and over the next couple of weeks we will be introducing him to all of our service teams.

9:30/11:30 AM - VOLUNTEER TEAM MEETINGS - THIS SUNDAY
During the 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM service, our 1st - 4th grade volunteers will meet in the RezKidz lounge to discuss ministering to kids during our classroom questions time. Anyone who missed last week’s meeting will join us this Sunday. If you have any questions or are a little ‘vague’ on what we’re doing - I’ll give more details when we gather together in the lounge prior to this Sunday’s service.

KIDS CARNIVAL - CALLING FOR ADDITIONAL VOLS AND CANDY!
Each year, Kids Carnival has expanded in attendance - and this year will be no exception. Therefore, our requirements for volunteers and candy increases, as well. Please pray that we have all our carnival needs supplied and if you get questions about volunteering - or would like to volunteer yourself - please contact one of our RezKidz staff. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!

Sometime next week, Tricia Mojica, who has faithfully labored in the RezKidz office for almost 4 years, will be ‘leaving’ us to begin a newly created position in the church’s front office.  She will become the Assistant to Pastor Curt Coffield and will have the title of Events Assistance Director at Res Life.  Tricia will support Pastor Curt with daily ministry duties, the Wednesday 7:00 PM services, the 2009 RLCI Leadership Conference and other church-wide events.

As many of you are aware, Tricia has extensive experience in running events and has honed her skills in the various services, functions and events she has lead in RezKidz, Power House and Kids Camp.

‘Officially’ we are very excited at this new opportunity she will have to focus on her organizational and leadership gifts.  ‘Unofficially’ were are quite sad that she won’t be working from within our department as she has become such a significant part of what we do as a staff and ministry team.  She will be greatly missed!

However, her office is still quite close and I’ve retained her cell phone number - so we’re sure that we will be seeing her often and that she will still be a part of the children’s ministry here.

Tricia will be around our area for another week - so please stop by RezKidz this Sunday to say hello, congratulate her, and wish her well in her new position. (Kleenex will be available upon request.)

At this time we have just initiated the process to find Tricia’s replacement, but we hope to have someone shortly and will let everyone know as soon as possible.

If you have any questions or comments on this message, don’t hesitate to contact the RezKidz office at 249-3713.
